The sound
Techno emerged in Detroit, Michigan, in the mid-1980s as a fusion of electronic funk, synth-pop, and European industrial music, characterized by repetitive, mechanical 4/4 rhythms, synthesized basslines, and a tempo typically between 120 and 150 BPM. It was codified by the Belleville Three (Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson) and later expanded through European club culture, particularly in Berlin after the fall of the Wall.
